Some are very clichéd: I'd have fairy lights and crisp white bedding with accents of pink in my bedroom. My sofa would be a mass of comfy cushions, beautiful coffee table books and I'd like to say I'd have vases of freshly cut flowers everywhere but with my feline vase killer companion that just would not work! Of course my fridge would be home to all things vegetable and fruit based (and Prosecco...it could be classed as a fruit extract right?) and in the kitchen I'd have the coffee machine, kettle and toaster of dreams (aka hideously expensive and I'd be too scared to use them!)<br />
<br />
Other solo living dreams are more practical - I would love to wake up in the morning to the smell of coffee by having a coffee machine by the bed, I'd have a TV in the bedroom so I could watch the news/YouTube while getting dressed - with all the lights on!!<br />
<br />
Those who know me know I do adore my husband, but while he works away for a fortnight at a time every few months I drift into a routine that I love - sleeping with the curtains open so the natural morning light wakes me (I get up on average at least 90 minutes before he does each morning and he is not a fan of the morning light!) I drink coffee in bed of a morning while waking up, I listen to music or a podcast while doing my make up and getting dressed - all things that would be unfair on the sleeping husband to be subjected to on the daily...<br />
<br />
Being a couple that compromises we do have white bedding now (finally) but I'd love to add an accent of flower print or bright colours, alas this is a step too far for Mr P! Of course I wouldn't give him up in exchange for these things BUT if I can't talk about my love for frivolous items like this in my corner of the internet what is the point of having a blog?<br />
<br />
Some of these ideas I have created within our spare room - turning it into a little girlie haven with cute lights, ornaments and books - it's just a shame that it ends up being a dumping ground for all things meaning it often is an unsable space...time to tackle that today before Mr P returns so I can keep the girlie sanctuary going.<br />
<br />
Hope you all have a space you can escape to within your home....or am I alone in coveting an area that is all mine?<br />

<br />
Partly life got very busy with the usual work and life demands, but I think mainly I just fell out of love with blogging. I didn't have anything I particularly wanted to say. And I definitely developed a strange obsession with YouTube (I do love a good "What's in my bag" video!) For a while now I've been thinking about my teeny tiny corner of the internet and thinking could I start again? Refreshed and with a new motivation could I start blogging about things I feel passionate about again? And if I did, what would those things be?<br />
<br />
Well, I guess it is important to say I am 19 months away from hitting 40 (!) not entirely sure how that is looming so quickly as I'm sure I was only 30 a mere matter of minutes ago. And while I'm not overly phased (most of the time) about the number I am finding myself wondering if there is anyone else like me out there as I seem to be a bit of an anomaly...<br />
<br />
I am a 38 year old woman who is very happily married, obsessed with her cat and infertile. Not in a gut wrenching depressive wailing way, in a it's just part of our life now way. Most of the time I feel incredibly blessed; I have an amazing husband, a great job, lovely friends and I get to sleep in on weekends. Occasionally I feel angry about it. And on a few instances, out of the blue, I have had a 5 minute emotional meltdown, that goes as quickly as it arrives. I am not jealous of friends who are on the parenting journey but overjoyed for them, especially when some have faced struggles themselves.<br />
<br />
So who am I now? I love Filofax planners, am on my first month of a capsule wardrobe challenge (which I am loving by the way) am more than partial to a glass (bottle) of Prosecco or Rose and I am always at some stage of fitness kick/healthy eating regime/totally fallen of the wagon and eating all the cake scenario! With a passion for handbags, scarves and all things fashion when it comes to classic style updates I'm just your average woman trying to find a foundation that not only matches your skintone but also makes you look 10 years younger and can be applied at 6.30am while half asleep but still last all day!<br />
<br />
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the bit I find hard is that there don't appear to be many other women like me out there, or at least I've not managed to find ones that are open and writing about it on the internet.<br />
<br />
As an avid blog reader I follow a lot of fashion blogs; <a href="http://fashionmumof40.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fashion Mum of 40</a>, <a href="http://doesmybumlook40.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Does My Bum Look 40</a>, and <a href="http://www.mymidlifefashion.com/" target="_blank">My Midlife Fashion</a> are 3 of my favourites but all of these ladies are mums. Now obviously there's nothing wrong with this and the majority of what they write about is fashion related which I'm totally on board with. It just got me thinking, surely there must be other child free women out there flanneling on on the internet, and if not, why not?<br />
<br />
So maybe (in a very long winded way) what I'm saying is that there could be a niche for someone like me to have a lifestyle blog that covers the alternative reality of being happy without a posse of children in tow. I know I'd love to find some more ladies like me so if I jump first maybe I'll find them?<br />
<br />
Here's to 2016 and a fresh start, say hello to LoulouDorset, Lifestyle blog....<br />

<br />
We've just been enjoying our final Bank Holiday of the season - you know, the one in the UK that marks the end of the halcyon period where we have several all in quick succession and then a long barren stretch until the end of August...yep that one! And Mr P and I have been enjoying a very chilled weekend - well we have had a hectic few weeks - we also have a week and half holiday coming up in mid June to look forward too as well..loving life right now!<br />
<br />
This weekend also for me seems to mark the start of Summer, even if the weather here isn't really co-operating!! It got me thinking as well how I've picked up a few pieces recently aiming to inject a shot of colour into my wardrobe. If you've read my blog for a while, or know me in real life my colour palette, especially in winter tends to focus on neutral colours like black, grey and white. Maybe a shot of navy every now and again...but in the simmer once I get a hint of colour on my skin I embrace a bit more colour!<br />
<br />
In this vein I thought I'd share some of my recent purchases!<br />
<br />
<b><i>The Boden Necklace</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
I'm totally in love with this piece, it brightens up my plain t's and shirts adding a summery pop of colour and goes exceptionally well with denim!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<b><i>The Zara Bag</i></b><br />
<br />
My husband did much eye rolling when I spotted this beauty in the Zara opposite Harrods during our visit to London last week - me I thought this was a) just the right shade of red b) the perfect summer crossbody size (room for phone/keys/lipgloss and money!!) c) a far more affordable version of the Celine bag but different enough to be clearly an inspired by not a blatant copy!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiKRpNszCMdz672FtTGDbnyRpe4zdgt8QaqVft1-_FQeg1ynTsNFO497hV9DYvoCNIUTAWLXffCphh_zizvH26oizs8WQytG33cYAyftaZSsGTPS0u-6hLtWShVhccSLAHGDZBRszHCTIH/s1600/zarabag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiKRpNszCMdz672FtTGDbnyRpe4zdgt8QaqVft1-_FQeg1ynTsNFO497hV9DYvoCNIUTAWLXffCphh_zizvH26oizs8WQytG33cYAyftaZSsGTPS0u-6hLtWShVhccSLAHGDZBRszHCTIH/s1600/zarabag.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
<b><i>The New Look Vest</i></b><br />
<br />
This vest is the perfect style - loose and swingy but not too flowy (no-one wants the vest that makes you look pregnant look going on now do we!!), it's the perfect shade of coral to inject some lovely summery passion into the wardrobe with my key denim staples..and worn under my black jersey blazer or a cardigan just adds that pop of colour! Did I mention it was uber cheap too??<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOTPbQa7EfGIJuopGuPTjJpA7qnbA425MOlNTWEygQN31UVcDb15aIw9rR_qEESKL8zUSnQwlbvR06r155lFNXLpjDOPy2A8lk12NVjqLDytMWc_AnA73Rwrfe0U84PPCdVS31Z4nJCBIU/s1600/newlook+vest.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOTPbQa7EfGIJuopGuPTjJpA7qnbA425MOlNTWEygQN31UVcDb15aIw9rR_qEESKL8zUSnQwlbvR06r155lFNXLpjDOPy2A8lk12NVjqLDytMWc_AnA73Rwrfe0U84PPCdVS31Z4nJCBIU/s1600/newlook+vest.PNG" /></a></td></tr>

<br />
So there we have it - my colour pop items to help me transition into the summer...here's hoping we get some sunshine again soon so I can rock some colourful items! Is there anything new you've purchased recently to add some vibrancy into your wardrobe? I'd love to see if so<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As we lurch towards the end of May I'm writing this enjoying a blissful Sunday night on the sofa catching up on Blacklist - if you don't want this you need to start if only for James Spader - love him! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway here it's a sweeter Sunday night than normal as we have a bank holiday Monday tomorrow - and unlike the last May bank holiday a few weeks ago I don't have to work this one huzzah!! Shame the weather isn't co-operating!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That said the past week was pretty fab as we (that's me and the lovely Mr P) spent a few days in London - I got to experience my first gig in the Royal Albert Hall - simply amazing!! Plus we visited the London Eye, London Aquarium and a multitude of other sites! Plus ate our body weight in burgers :) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also managed a cheeky pitstop in Selfridges beauty hall and treated myself to the most perfect small red crossbody bag - overall a ruddy lovely few days!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway now the warmer weather is upon us I'm trying to reevaluate the wardrobe and work out what's work appropriate for the wet but warm season we seem to be in!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hope you are all doing well Lxx</div>

Yes work was/is busy and I've been lucky enough to have had some social stuff going on (rare but true!!) but even so a whole month lapsing by! I blame my age....</div><div><br></div><div>Anyhow a quick recap of last week in one sentence:</div><div><br></div><div>Driving a lot, assisting some students in their marketing project work and attending a networking event to gain inspiration for myself! </div><div><br></div><div>Literary festivaling for a sunny Sunday</div><div><br></div><div>Today I was chauffeured by the DH to Bath, a fair old drive from our seaside abode (2 hours each way no less!) as I'd driven to and from Alton Towers for work this week he kindly volunteered to drive me to this beautiful spa town as I'd booked myself on a Red Magazine networking event all about getting yourself published. I'm one of those people who feels like there could be a novel (or at least a half decent short story) knocking about in my head but I need to try and work out how I develop that train of narrative into a cohesive structure. Enter a panel session with 3 women at the top of their fields - author, agent and publisher. It was a great event followed by an afternoon enjoying the sunshine pottering around the city - pretty much a perfect day!!</div><div><br></div><div>The plan ahead.....</div><div><br></div><div>So what's coming up this week? More work travel (I'm certainly giving my car a workout at the moment!), attending the reveal of Weymouth BID's marketing plan and vision, a leaving do to attend and the ever exciting contact lens check up on Saturday - I'm sure it's the lighter evenings that means I have more inclination to leave the house and actually get outdoors!! Long may this current sunny spell continue please weather gods!!</div><div><br></div><div>How are you all? Enjoying some sun I hope? It was another hectic one here in Loulouland...<br />
<br />
<b><i>Passporting away</i></b><br />
<br />
So since getting married in September I've been slowly but surely working my way through the gigantic list of things I needed to change my name on - from my driving license, bank cards, work documents, email addresses the list is never ending! One of the most costly (and complicated!!) is the changing of the passport! Handily mine was due for renewal in November this year so I needed to update it anyway - 4 forms later (LONG story involving out of date forms(!) coffee and day dates in month columns!) I finally had the Post Office confirmation and off it went - roughly 3 weeks and I should have my new passport with shocking photo back and ready to start planning some trips!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Housing to go</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
Also since getting married Mr P and I have been discussing the need to move to a larger abode. I confess it is mainly my handbag, shoes and clothing that takes up all the room but we'd like to upgrade from our 2 bedroom to at least a 3 if not 4 bedroom house! That way we can have some room each plus an actual spare room for guests! The only problem is finding a nice new house that meets all of our criteria that doesn't cost ridiculous amounts. We want to stay on "our side of town" and for some reason the prices here are a good £50k more than in other areas...handily it looks like a spangly new development might have just got the go ahead on our doorstep which if so would be perfection!! Fingers crossed it makes it...<br />
<br />
<b><i>Catching up with my bestie</i></b><br />
I finally made it out of my hometown and on to visit my bestie Mrs L and my goddaughters with their Christmas presents - we were both so frantic pre Christmas and with the floods/weather/storms etc since we've not managed to meet up but finally we did on Saturday afternoon! It was lovely to see them and now I've managed to see them I'm all enthused to get out and about more. It is so easy when the winter sets in to hibernate in our little seaside abode but I really need to get out more and catch up with my lovely friends before they forget who I am!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Yet more rain.......</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
Despite a couple of days where the sun peeked out the overall week has again been wet and miserable here in the UK. I am so bored of dodging puddles on my way into work and coming home covered in mud....surely it must be time for either Spring or at least a cold dry snap??<br />
<br />
<b><i>A cheeky Nandos</i></b><br />
Earlier in the week we paid an unplanned but very delicious trip to our local Nandos, Mr P finally got the new style loyalty card (we still have a whole chicken on the old one to eat on our next visit too!) and I remember just why the Piri piri chips are so darned good - it may be a type of fast food but man is it yum!!<br />
<br />
So that was January week 4 - other exciting notables were payday (always a joy in January as it feels like it takes forever to get there!!) rediscovering a handbag and falling back in love with it's spacious gorgeousness (gotta have a big bag during the day) and starting season 3 of the Good Wife (yep still obsessed with that show!)<br />
<br />
The week ahead has another bestie's birthday, the promise of dinner out and the lure of planning a weekend to Bath soon so it should be a good one!<br />
<br />
Hope you are all looking forward to the week ahead!<br />

<br />
If you haven't seen this movie I urge you to check it out NOW! I love everything about this movie, the characters, the male lead - hello Ryan Reynolds!! The cast also includes the fabulous ex Golden Girl Betty White and the glorious Mary Steenburgen who I simply adore and should be in every movie if possible!!<br />
<br />
Anyway the plot of this movie focuses on a high flying publishing exec (Sandra) and her assistant (Ryan) and when her work visa expires needs to secure her citizenship so decides to marry her assistant whether he wants to or not (a promotion may just have swung the deal!!) Anyway long story short they end up at his home in Alaska and guess what....they fall in love! Everyone say aaah. <br />
<br />
Throughout the whole movie Sandra's wardrobe is impeccable - from Manhattan Chic to her Alaskan snuggly warm layers...the perfect workwear and casual wear I mean just look at the gorgeous suiting in this the promotional shot:<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
This means that quite often when I become fixated on something it is either something practical (hello perfect belted puffa coat I mean you) or something the majority of people I'm sure find incredible boring. This ramble nicely introduces a post all about black jumpers...The perfect black jumper for me needs to be a wool free zone, an annoying intolerance to wool against my skin (it just makes me itch no matter how soft the garment) means I'm always on the look out for any non wool supersoft jumpers I can find!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My favourite stores for these tend to be my usual high street suspects - Warehouse, Oasis and the conglomerate of all things Debenhams. I'm searching for the perfect relaxed crew neck/almost slashed neck, relaxed fit/slouchy but smart jumper. One that can be "poshed up" with a statement necklace for smart/casual days with friends but can also double as a smart workwear piece with tailored separates and minimal bling...not wanting much then I guess!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A couple of my favourites at the moment:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>A Warehouse zipper shoulder number</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuE3ecf1ogyCsC72YKFXhW_HvglDsKh2wcEJLmhgUsJA4y9RQMv18X0dyDEBkQPP-HoDCa5QsOdSAAwyeJBt7oo93Ziof7EV4nA-nr-z-7o3Er-eM8Q2aF4Mu8zwPceXm5RajGIoIIARLq/s1600/Warehouse+jumper+with+zips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuE3ecf1ogyCsC72YKFXhW_HvglDsKh2wcEJLmhgUsJA4y9RQMv18X0dyDEBkQPP-HoDCa5QsOdSAAwyeJBt7oo93Ziof7EV4nA-nr-z-7o3Er-eM8Q2aF4Mu8zwPceXm5RajGIoIIARLq/s1600/Warehouse+jumper+with+zips.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.warehouse.co.uk/zip-shoulder-textured-jumper/jumpers-&-cardigans/warehouse/fcp-product/6380024777" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
I really like the slouchyness look of this and the zips do have a nod to an edgier design than I would normally go for. I hate the styling with the shirt underneath and the zips mean no statement necklace potentially but the length and the overall look seem good...and it could definitely double up for work and casual wear</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<i>The Very longline petite sweater</i></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't normally shop at Very but in a recent video by YouTuber MissBudgetBeauty on her <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8omuONNfqk" target="_blank">Spendaholic channel</a> comparing Ugg boots compelled me to check out their online site. While doing so I was very tempted by a sweater dress that says Pow (cool eh!) but I also saw this bargain, longline, v-neck but not too low and with long sleeves -all for £16 I figure it could be worth a try...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>And finally the Oasis sweater/blouse conundrum</i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.oasis-stores.com/fabric-mixed-top/cardigans-&-jumpers/oasis/fcp-product/3610196201" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
And then there is this lovely item from Oasis. It's half blouse (sleeves) and half jumper. It doesn't really match the brief at all other than looking slouchy and pretty cool but there's just something about it that calls to me. Don't think I'll be trying the plaited hair crown thing tho, I'm not a fan of that I have to say!</div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So there we go, the hunt continues for now. Are you a fan of the simple black jumper or do you prefer a more statement looking knit? Let me know in the comments I'd love to hear if you like my choices or if these are just too boring for you! Lxx</div>

Admittedly I spent most of the week thinking it was Friday and it is always upsetting when you then wake up and realise it is only Wednesday but even so the past 7 days have disappeared in flash!! I'm guessing because it was such a busy one....<br />
<br />
<b><i>Super crazy busy work stuff</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
I am super busy at work at the moment as we gear up for the start of the Peak season...with signage/creative/leaflet/poster/planning and website briefs coming out of my ears I am forever making lists and notes just to try and make sure I don't miss any deadlines or forget something vital!! Thank goodness for post it notes is all I can say this week :)<br />
<br />
<b><i>A very late Cornish Christmas</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
With the weather and bouts of flu scuppering any plans over the festive season we finally made it down to visit the hubs family to exchange presents and catch up! I love visiting them in Cornwall, not only are the nicest people but where they live is just amazing - definitely somewhere I would love to live one day!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Bargainous Pizza Deliciousness</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
On Tuesday night the hubs and I went to <a href="http://stablepizza.com/home/the-stable-weymouth/" target="_blank">The Stable in Weymouth</a> for dinner. For some reason we tend to visit The Stable lots in summer and then neglect to visit over the winter months (maybe it is our age or the vile weather meaning we hibernate more) but a colleague had mentioned (a lot) their fabulous Tuesday night offer of any pizza and a beverage for £10! What a bargain so we trotted off through torrential rain for some delicious eats. If you are unfamiliar with The Stable they serve homemade pizzas, pies and salads with locally sourced ingredients. They now have several restaurants over the South West and originated in Bridport - if you ever get the chance to visit one I highly recommend as they are very tasty, have friendly staff and the cider tasting challenge (5 half pints of different local ciders) is a great start to a meal / night out!! I ordered the Joe Gundry which includes smoked mackrel, smoked salmon and fresh spinach among the toppings YUM and the hubs had a Longhorn Jim and announced this was his favourite ever. I think the combo of chorizo, beef and ham helped - total carnivore my husband!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Snow lust</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
For the past 2 Januarys I've been lucky enough to go skiing with a terrific group of people. The first year I went I was total novice and had never skied before and trotted off to Whistler in Canada to see if I could learn to like the sport. My hubs is a huge fan and had <strike>blackmailed</strike> persuaded me to go along and at least try. Up until that holiday I was absolutely that person who thought spending so much money to be cold on holiday was utter madness. But after a lot of lessons and a few mishaps I came back completely converted....Fast forward to January 2013 and I spent a week in Les Arcs where I could still remember how to get down a mountain (winner!!) unfortunately due to the wedding/honeymoon in Maui the disposable funds simply weren't there to join the GSD crew this year who have returned again to the incredible resort of Whistler. We are beyond jealous, especially as while we stalk the resort through their webcams we can see that the weather is all clear blue skies and sunshine. There is talk of a possible late season trip potentially being an option and with the Winter Olympics looming (and even Channel 4's Jump programme) getting me even more ski obsessed I think I can safely say I've got the bug!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Grown up thoughts</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
This week was also the week I started to think properly about long term futures (yawn). With a new pension and share save scheme launching at work I'm finally at the ripe old age of 36 starting to think about the FUTURE eek. Normally my long term spending projects are more handbag based but maybe now I'm an old married lady I'm starting to become more sensible!! Surely not? But if I want that Cornwall move I'd best get my savings on...<br />
<br />
<b><i>The week ahead</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
This week will mainly be consisting of working, a couple of Webinars as I try to improve myself and a long overdue hair appointment on Saturday! After which I will hopefully be seeing the lovely Mrs L for a massively overdue Christmas present drop off (worst godmother ever 'tis me)<br />
<br />
Hope you have all had a good week I'd love to hear about it!!<br />

This is where I'm going to ramble on about my past week as well as what is coming up in a hopefully entertaining way :)<br />
<br />
I had a funny week this week:<br />
<br />
<b><i>A bit of a makeover</i></b><br />
<br />
The hubs spent a lot of time redesigning the blog to give it a fresh makeover - and doesn't it look good?? There were a couple of iterations along the way but I'm in love with the new look and I hope you like it, what do you think? I'd love to know in the comments.<br />
<br />
<b><i>A fashion blogger?</i></b><br />
<br />
I was contacted by BBC Radio West Midlands regarding the financial results of Marks and Spencers - they were going to be discussing the results live on air and had seen my previous posts about M&S fashion (see<a href="http://louloudorsetsmusings.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/i-love-marks-and-spencer-but.html" target="_blank"> here</a> and <a href="http://louloudorsetsmusings.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/eeek-new-girlwhat-to-wear-to-work-on.html" target="_blank">here</a>) and wondered if I would agree to be one of the interviewees on their morning radio show. This was odd as a) I wouldn't call myself a fashion blogger b) I don't live in the West Midlands and c) I'm no expert in fashion retailing! But like most people I have an opinion on M&S and especially their clothing (well everyone loves their food right?) so I thought why not? The segment was fine I was interviewed alongside a bona fide retail expert and I don't think I made too much of a fool of myself plus it certainly made for an interesting start to my Thursday morning!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Thai via Nandos</i></b><br />
Last night the hubs and I decided to venture out for dinner, he's been craving Nandos for a while now so we trekked over to our nearest one (about a 15 minute drive) unfortunately being Saturday night it was heaving and the wait was nearly an hour. Hunger won out and we decided to investigate a Thai restaurant I've walked past more times than I can remember but never been in. And I'm so glad we did!! The atmosphere was super relaxed and the food was incredibly good and excellent value, the service was slow but overall this was a big win from an impromptu night out!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>The Good Wife Obsession</i></b><br />
I wrote on Wednesday about my current obsession with the American TV show The Good Wife (see <a href="http://louloudorsetsmusings.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/workwear-wednesday-good-wife-inspiration.html" target="_blank">here</a>) well I've managed this week to watch the entire first season (I LOVE Netflix!!!!!) and I've started Season 2 it's just addictive. I love the characters, the scenarios, the escapism of thinking if only I'd gone to law school this could've been me (just go with it it's escapism remember)....plus for a nice change the female characters are especially well rounded and realistically written. Plus I'm totally drooling over their office attire, shallow but true!!<br />
<br />
<b><i>Planning blog posts the Loulou way</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLT9CmBBzFRZuRLZO8z69GTVQNSDJCX_8j5ABaaqFFND9bQYlokj2zbH-fUEoxHk5eG2ukS4oJDwgCAJ3bddpLNuSJd-NEKzfAUQTPHg9vBeNpB2JG8Q-BnRq9qfsQIPpX2DzC9n1ZBQz0/s1600/2014-01-12+12.36.45.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLT9CmBBzFRZuRLZO8z69GTVQNSDJCX_8j5ABaaqFFND9bQYlokj2zbH-fUEoxHk5eG2ukS4oJDwgCAJ3bddpLNuSJd-NEKzfAUQTPHg9vBeNpB2JG8Q-BnRq9qfsQIPpX2DzC9n1ZBQz0/s1600/2014-01-12+12.36.45.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Filofax Blog Planning Section</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As the blog is now a key focus area for me I thought I'd share my blog post planning organisation...that makes it sound posher than it is but what I have done is set aside a section in my Filofax for blog planning. There is a specific tab in my Projects sections that is just for my blog schedule, ideas about future posts and notes about the blog. I have the Projects section right at the front of my binder, ahead of my calendars as I refer to it a lot and want it easily accessible. I then write in my calendar (Week on one page with notes) the posts and whether they are scheduled or to be written this way I know what is planned and what is yet to write or completed already! With a New Year Resolution to keep I'm aiming to be super organised with the blog to fit it around working full time as well.<br />
<br />
<b><i>The week ahead</i></b><br />
<br />
Coming up this week I have LOTS on at work, I love this part of my job the planning, the presentations, the thinking ahead...it's my favourite part of marketing. Identifying who the customer is and how I can target them and make them purchase...so to make the rest of the week easier I'm trying to be organised and do 2 things:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Meal Plan: the hubs and I are rubbish sometimes and thinking of what to have for dinner so this week I'm trialling a new system (well not new as such but I've not done it for ages) and planning out our meals for the week! I've just ordered the <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1601065027/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1" target="_blank">Knock Knock Meal Planner</a> from Amazon ideally I wanted the magnetised version to stick on the fridge but I can just use magnets to attach the sheets once completed!! Tuesday we are planning a night out but apart from that I'm going to plan out some favourites and a newbie to try....</li>
<li>Wardrobe Plan: I've tweeted these before, I do find it easier to plan what I'm wearing in advance so I don't spend wasted time in the mornings wondering where an item is (or having to iron things ugh I hate ironing!!) Considering the monsoon like conditions Dorset has been having it's all about practical footwear and warm layers...not glamorous but completely essential!</li>
</ol>
<br />
So there we are the first Schedule Sunday, it goes to show I certainly still have the ability to ramble that's for sure! I'd love to know what you are all up to over the upcoming week!!<br />
<br />

These posts are going to be all about stealing style tips from TV or film characters that provide inspirational wardrobes as well as captivating watching!!<br />
<br />
So for the first one I'm channeling inspiration from my current TV show obsession The Good Wife! If you haven't caught this show it centers around the life of Alicia Florrick, the wife of a former state attorney who has been sent to prison for corruption (after sleeping with a bevvy of escorts as well to boot!) and is on Netflix - back to back episodes...bliss!!<br />
<br />
Anyway I digress, to make a living now her husband is in jail Alicia, played by the stunning Julianna Margulies best known previously from ER, has had to go back out to work as a lawyer starting at the bottom as a Junior Associate. Her wardrobe consists of great suits, amazing separates, a fabulous range of jackets and very stylish lounge wear always with a very Nigella Lawson-esque blow dry and immaculate make up. Plus her range of heels and handbags are pretty fab too (yes I'm shallow I love me some good accessories!!)<br />
<br />
So here are some of my favourite looks from the previous few seasons (and if you haven't caught any episodes then I suggest you hotfoot it over to Netflix and start watching!!) So my inspiration for this week is to start rocking some cute jacket and trouser combinations, even if the stiletto heels will have to stay in the wardrobe as they don't mix with my muddy workplace, shame though I have some rocking heels just dying to head out of my wardrobe!!<br />
<br />
A classic cream suit number for court:<br />

So there we go, my first Wednesday post hope there's some inspiration in there for you I know there is lots for me!!<br />

<br />Louloudorsethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16717307152561268030noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000939759459157665.post-25041400524474983112014-01-06T13:00:00.000+00:002014-01-06T13:00:02.505+00:00Monday wants: the fur giletIs it a gilet, a vest or even a waistcoat?? I've seen lots of these over the years but now I'm obsessed!! I mean completely inappropriate with the current permanent wet weather system we have in the UK with constant torrential rain - I'd end up looking more like a soggy wet hound than the glamorous vixen image they convey to me but I just think they are so chic!<br />
<br />
3 groundrules:<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Must be faux fur - I feel that goes without saying but was horrified to end up on a site selling real fur for just £40 or so...I do wear leather and eat meat so maybe I'm hypocritical but wearing fur would be a step too far for me (as for angora the recent PETA videos being shared everywhere make me so glad I can't wear wool! Man made fibres all the way for me!!)</li>
<li>Ideally it would be black - I love wearing black, it suits me, it's glamorous and it goes with EVERYTHING. If I'm trying out a new trend (well for me it is) then it has to be a classic colour so that I'm testing the concept not whether I suit yeti white...but maybe grey or natural could work..</li>
<li>It has to be hip length I love that layered look</li>
</ol>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So here are 3 of my favourites I've spied online while perusing the post Christmas sales:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Mango</i></div>
<div>
It's black, it's the right length and it is a very reasonable £29.99 in the sale, but I'm not sure about the belt or the snuggle factor (it's a thing honest!)...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyMFsbjS1Ajnv95JFkzcGmoGIfOyQh3kb_0Ifd_ZIEcEFdomfL2UzTHeCW0i98sNec44BIBH8jRa43Jhuua03_azQPlutCjyP6reiWgO7eSq2-HZxqZY0xbkXpzp9LnrPMGt3TuGVWx7U-/s1600/Mango+One.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyMFsbjS1Ajnv95JFkzcGmoGIfOyQh3kb_0Ifd_ZIEcEFdomfL2UzTHeCW0i98sNec44BIBH8jRa43Jhuua03_azQPlutCjyP6reiWgO7eSq2-HZxqZY0xbkXpzp9LnrPMGt3TuGVWx7U-/s320/Mango+One.jpg" width="228" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://shop.mango.com/ficha.faces?state=she_006_IN" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>White Stuff</i></div>
<div>
Ok so its not black but grey but it looks rather snuggly and warm and soft and strokeable....oh and it is on sale for just £52.50 what's not to love?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
<div>
<i>French Connection</i></div>
<div>
More expensive and appalling styling in my opinion on the site as you really can't tell what the item actually looks like, that aside it looks a great length and super soft but it's twice the price of the others....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Don't worry the same sort of ramblings will occur but I want to try and be a bit more organised with my posting (I mean lets face it 2013 was a fail in terms of regular content wasn't it!) so here is my plan:<br />
<br />
Sundays are going to be called Schedule Sunday - this is where I'll post about my more random thoughts, what I have coming up and inspiration for the week ahead as well as reviewing what I did or didn't achieve in the week prior!<br />
<br />
Wednesdays are going to be a new feature following on from several previous posts called Workwear Wednesday - now this may sound boring but this is the new "fashiony" section of the blog. I've realised I spend a lot of time as I think lots of others do taking style inspirations from TV shows or films whether it be consciously or sub-consciously. So in the aim of finding my style groove in 2014 as I lurch precariously towards my 4th decade in 4 years I wanted to start my own fashion area on my blog :)<br />
<br />
Following on with my love of alliteration I'm going to start a regular Filofax Friday feature. As you will know if you've read my blog before I adore my Filofaxes, I have (far) too many and I tend to swop them out to change according to the time of year and the seasons as well as what I have going on in my life. The first couple of Filofax Fridays will focus on my current set up and the binders that I am using (currently 3: A5 Osterley in Grey for work, Personal Adelphi in Magenta for everything and a Pocket Imperial Purple Finchley for a smaller, travel friendly, on the go binder!) so if you are a Filofax buff keep your eyes peeled next week for that.<br />
<br />
Amongst these regular posts there will be random additions including monthly favourites, handbag features, study planning and organisation, work planning and organisation, travel guides and recommendations/planning and mutterings about anything else that takes my fancy! I mean this is my little space on the interweb isn't it so I'm going to write about what I love!!<br />
<br />
I hope you all enjoy the more regular posting and I hope that I can build back the followers and communication that I used to have before my blogging mojo vamooshed and I stopped writing! Here's to 2014<br />

p.s keep a look out there's a blog redesign coming too, well New Year, New Mojo = New Style....Louloudorsethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16717307152561268030noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000939759459157665.post-37336334134596155972014-01-01T17:19:00.001+00:002014-01-01T17:19:00.240+00:00Hello 2014....what's new for Mrs P?So it is the first day of 2014 and while the weather (wet, windy and a bit more wet) seems stuck in 2013 it's a good day to reflect on 2013 but also plan for some exciting things in the upcoming year ahead!<div><br></div><div>In terms of New Years Resolutions it's a short and sweet list for me this year - after all the excitement of getting married and visiting Hawaii in 2013 I wanted to focus on improving myself and becoming healthier and achieving some long term goals this year:</div><div><br></div><div>1) Start blogging regularly again! </div><div>I miss blogging! One of my greatest pleasures is waffling on about nonsense in my little space on the interbob but I didn't seem to get my groove going last year - in my drafts folder are masses of unfinished posts but a new year means a new start! So thinking about about what I love includes of course planning, organisation and my Filofax, books and magazines - I love reading but don't do it enough, handbags and maybe even some random beauty posts! As well as some home improvement and studying posts...</div><div><br></div><div>2) Start writing my "novel"</div><div>When I first started blogging it was in part to see if I could develop a writing style because I'd love to know if one day the random plot lines and characters I have whirling around my head could ever make it into a cohesive story....so I have started to put together a plan of how I could make the fiction in my head into fiction on a page!</div><div><br></div><div>3) Cycle around the Isle of Wight</div><div>This came out of a conversation with my good friend Mr T about me having not visited the IOW other than for the festival. So what could be better than cycling around (probably from pub to pub) seeing beautiful scenery while burning off all the ice cream with some friends?</div><div><br></div><div>4) Eat my "5 a day" </div><div>Like many people I think, I veer between being really good at making sure my diet contains lots of fruits and vegetables and then periods where I don't seem to eat any! So for 2014 I really want to make myself focus on being healthier and including vegetables and fruits EVERY DAY not just some of the days :)</div><div><br></div><div>5) Train for and complete a 10k</div><div>This year I (sort of) trained for and ran a 5k for the Race for Life but since then I've done virtually nothing in terms of exercise so a new year means a new start so time to get my (larger than it was) ass back into some regular exercise programme! Cardio tennis and spinning plus some running is the way forward....</div><div><br></div><div>6) Save, save and save some more</div><div>Next year Mr P and I are considering that a house move could be on the cards to somewhere with a bit more room so to do that I need to reign in my shopping addiction and try to focus more on saving those pennies. I also plan on finally sell those things I don't use that we have cluttering up our cosy abode so that money can also go into the pot! I saw today on Instagram (follow me I'm @Louloudorset to see pics of my life and especially my cat!!) the #2014closetremixchallenge by @jen_murph where there's a shopping ban (eeeek) and you only use the items in your closet - remixing them to create all new looks. Now I have a LOT of clothes but am one of those people that always feels like I have nothing to wear so I'm hoping this will motivate me big time to a) wear more of my wardrobe and b) prove to myself that I do not need to shop!!</div><div><br></div><div>So that's it, my goals for 2014, a framework of positive affirmations to work on improving myself with....are you willing to share yours? Do you set resolutions or do you not believe in them?</div><div><br></div><div>Much love to you all for 2014 </div><div><br></div><div>Lxx</div><div><br></div>Louloudorsethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16717307152561268030noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000939759459157665.post-31737629559806661322013-10-03T19:53:00.000+01:002013-10-03T19:53:21.917+01:00Hello stranger.........So here it is, my first post as a married lady....yes it has been so long since my last blog post that I've only gone and gotten married to Mr P!<br />
<br />
I don't know why but since starting a new job and planning the wedding earlier this year I totally lost my blogging mojo. I wasn't sure what I would write about or if I would even ever update the blog again....but something the husband (LOVE!!!! saying that) said this evening sparked some inspiration so while I'm mentally making a list of new blog posts I thought I'd write a quick update to say <i>SORRY </i>I've been gone so long and if there's anyone left hopefully there's lots more to come from me!!<br />
<br />
So here's a hint as to what my next post is going to be about - a real thought out, planned and considered one and not just a quick ramble like this one!<br />
<br />
Much love LP xx<br />

But of course after 4 1/2 years at my last place it is going to be VERY strange being the new girl somewhere. The usual trying to remember everyone's names (something I am TERRIBLE at) trying to work out where everything is and what the nuances of the office are (do people make tea rounds or just make their own for example?)<br />
<br />
And of the course the age old issue of what to wear. In an interview setting you know what to wear (usually a suit or key tailored pieces) and the people interviewing you are usually dressed up to, but in a day to day environment what is the dress code? Is it smart smarts (suits/tailored shirts etc) or is smart casual (smart jeans, or trousers but casual tops?) Is it uber relaxed on Fridays with jeans and sneakers (yes I know I'm British and we wear trainers but the word sneakers is so much more fun!)<br />
<br />
I'd been doing some Google searching and reading blogs to see what people wear to work...my last place was super casual so I wore jeans everyday. But the new place not so much, I think, I believe it will vary depending on where I'm based or what I'm doing but essentially a whole lot smarter than what I've been used to on a daily basis. Which is no bad thing as I've missed getting dressed up for work, I mean it gives another excuse to go shopping doesn't it if nothing else!!<br />
<br />
But I digress, to day one. Now tricky while this may be I do think going super smart is the only way forward - the last thing you want is to rock up and be under dressed for meeting the MD who just happens to be in that day at a loose end...so here is my plan of attack:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHxCyzWok_TkneaIpnaXWMGXVmPinIAWhbRP3YmTl1v-patvE5SgQY5splCJwConx4CWXnzXklljuKM3G3uXNnlWB7Y2qIsQE1eIQ88eWrXgjmlYyi5uXUZSs1lMABmSFbOGf4pVwzc9b/s1600/trews.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHxCyzWok_TkneaIpnaXWMGXVmPinIAWhbRP3YmTl1v-patvE5SgQY5splCJwConx4CWXnzXklljuKM3G3uXNnlWB7Y2qIsQE1eIQ88eWrXgjmlYyi5uXUZSs1lMABmSFbOGf4pVwzc9b/s320/trews.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.oasis-stores.com/celeste-slim-leg-trouser/smart/oasis/fcp-product/3450160201" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
1. Good black trousers<br />
A wardrobe essential - flattering, good quality trousers are worth their weight in gold. I know that Oasis are my go to place for jeans and trousers. A bit more pricey than some other high street stores (wait for the online discounts or sales as they happen constantly!) but their trews fit me well - they are cut I guess for gals with curves. So find your shop where you know the clothes will work with you not against you - for example me and Zara trousers don't gel, I am too short and curvy for their bottoms. Nothing against them they just don't work for me so why stress myself out?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VN17Ummmf4bDkogw541grL8owIHh3funubF91avNxae8w5rou6Se2ghMRKhefk6Gr2YEm-JpQ8bcdtntlAawmpFcSSMtEH66yqTsxRIvWxfmfLBh953t3ECVrrKhFsBF5UZtFHnRJn10/s1600/blouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VN17Ummmf4bDkogw541grL8owIHh3funubF91avNxae8w5rou6Se2ghMRKhefk6Gr2YEm-JpQ8bcdtntlAawmpFcSSMtEH66yqTsxRIvWxfmfLBh953t3ECVrrKhFsBF5UZtFHnRJn10/s1600/blouse.jpg" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
2. A nice neutral shirt<br />
Ideally on day one you want something you have worn before and you know you are comfy in. No stress about it being too low cut, or see through or pulling in the wrong places. You want to be put together but also feel comfortable as it will be stressful enough on your first day doing all the "firsts" without fretting about your wardrobe. I swear my Marks and Spencer, Dorothy Perkins and Zara for good office shirts/tops.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrUn2ZsSavUmgrbGNzK7C-XR_iPMyZp0UJdP8zpiV0iKgTtKbzrc9PkpEXapddJPRvsQKvQQK9a1qdwKkl_DGoft_7zicMaDr0XZmLcHzWAO4sQ63IfehlAG7in3Y-hckphzCD1rXoQ9kj/s1600/cardigan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrUn2ZsSavUmgrbGNzK7C-XR_iPMyZp0UJdP8zpiV0iKgTtKbzrc9PkpEXapddJPRvsQKvQQK9a1qdwKkl_DGoft_7zicMaDr0XZmLcHzWAO4sQ63IfehlAG7in3Y-hckphzCD1rXoQ9kj/s1600/cardigan.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.marksandspencer.com/M-Woman-Bobble-Button-Cardigan/dp/B0049DQSP0?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_4&nodeId=42966030&sr=1-4&qid=1364121920&pf_rd_r=1TFXYHC78Q9T0N4EG71F&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=0&pf_rd_p=321381407&pf_rd_s=center-3" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
3. The hot/cold element<br />
Currently in Blighty we have snow up North and flooding down South (where I live) no sign of Spring whatsoever...so for my first day to go alongside the trousers and blouse I recommend either a smart blazer/jacket or a colourful pop from a bright cardigan. Keeps you warm, adds a bit of individuality and can be removed if the office is snug before adding back on and facing the elements outside! Again I swear by Marks and Spencer they do the most amazing cardigans I think I have them in nearly every colour and they wash and last so so so well!!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLCZhD6qLU8PNRMBHSPfF1xlGJo901FAdGj2BRCHHW8GSdcBrE1phc3MVmm8zb8wSN2rPwxJ2UN1ZT_DB_cZOjf95Dwg8kqMp1basZPfsT4ckzJ9Osuq20AcOqf9OdDFYKMMV-oGNpuHG4/s1600/shoes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLCZhD6qLU8PNRMBHSPfF1xlGJo901FAdGj2BRCHHW8GSdcBrE1phc3MVmm8zb8wSN2rPwxJ2UN1ZT_DB_cZOjf95Dwg8kqMp1basZPfsT4ckzJ9Osuq20AcOqf9OdDFYKMMV-oGNpuHG4/s1600/shoes.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.marksandspencer.com/Limited-Collection-Patent-Platform-Court/dp/B003MJZMNQ?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_1&nodeId=42966030&sr=1-1&qid=1364122069&pf_rd_r=1SCXSMA8EFJXBMZ36YQ8&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=0&pf_rd_p=321381407&pf_rd_s=center-3" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
4. Shoes...walk tall but be able to walk!<br />
Another core staple is a good pair of black court shoes - yes they sound boring but I don't think any working girl can be without a smart but comfy pair of black shoes. These ones from Marks and Spencer are ideal - nice height and super comfy - I love their shoes plus full price they are only £19! Amazing value. They also come in loads of cool colours for when you want to be a bit more daring!<br />
<br />
5. Accessories....<br />
Now if you've been a reader for a while you will know I LOVE my accessories...from statement necklaces to a handbags I do think choosing the right accessories helps personalise an otherwise "safe" outfit. However on day one as I've mentioned before it is better err on the side of caution just in case your colleagues don't get your style. Therefore I'd keep accessories to a minimum for me this means - no jangling bangles for example just a classic watch, a simple necklace as I'm wearing a shirt I need something but nothing too large and then a plain bag that won't overpower the outfit....<br />
<br />
This bag from Zara is perfect<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRpOHfGHfLSCUioA56C2C9ZfmgLV9g-9EPJ21osPUUFPonZc1cUJUbJyIcIgNHQzEBJ7XQe29Uobg3EETiMaQouwKYc7san9ZjuiTFAPT7m8OQxIFSGOX8o2jCyNesnHUrWIQbxyc6ZWGW/s1600/bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRpOHfGHfLSCUioA56C2C9ZfmgLV9g-9EPJ21osPUUFPonZc1cUJUbJyIcIgNHQzEBJ7XQe29Uobg3EETiMaQouwKYc7san9ZjuiTFAPT7m8OQxIFSGOX8o2jCyNesnHUrWIQbxyc6ZWGW/s320/bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-neu-S2013/358019/1098567/OFFICE%2BCITY%2BBAG" target="_blank">Link</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
6. Make up/nails/perfume<br />
Finally remember we always want to look groomed but try to avoid wearing more war paint than a Vegas showgirl. Less is more as my Mum would say!! I will aim (although not sure if I ever manage it) to look polished but have my make up look invisible like I'm not really wearing any...for me that means good foundation and powder to stop shine, some neutral eyeshadow and neutral lipstick/gloss. Again nothing too overpowering for perfume you don't want to be knows as the newbie with the stinky perfume after all! Finally on my nails I will be wearing Essie's Mademoiselle as I think it is the perfect barely there polish that just smartens up my nails enough to look done but in a unobtrusive way if that makes sense?<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed this post, if so please comment and let me know...I have a part B planned of how I inject my personality into my working wardrobe - still using the basics above but adding more exciting accessories (shoes/belt/jewellery) into the mix<br />
<br />
What do you wear for work? Is it smarts all the way or are you a casual dresser?<br />

It is less than 6 months until I get to marry the fabulous Mr P (so far so good he hasn't backed out yet!!) I worked my last day in Bournemouth as I'm starting a new job tomorrow (eek) in my hometown - no more will I spend 2 1/2 hours a day driving to and from work and no more 5.50am alarm wake ups (Mr P is especially happy about that) I'll be able to try eating breakfast at home again and maybe even cooking dinner occasionally as I'm not getting home after 7pm!!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've also been watching the new Cancer Research adverts with interest, the "Cancer we are coming to get you" initially I was a bit wary but having seen it several times I think it is a fantastic message and it has made me sit up and want to get involved because it is so positive, upbeat and really conveys the difference that Cancer Research makes to us beating this horrific disease.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My own history with the big C I've mentioned before having lost several amazing relatives including my Dad to it. Mr P as you'll know from my blog also had a significant brush with it a couple of years ago and thankfully beat it. But this was only down to the extensive research that had been going on - as his consultant told us when he said "don't worry you're completely curable" (possibly the best moment of my entire life)" but you're lucky because if this had been 10 years ago it would have been a completely different story"....a very sobering thought!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And that is why this morning I have signed up to run the <a href="http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/louloudorset" target="_blank">5k Race For Life in Sherborne</a> (Dorset) on Sunday 23rd June 2013.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am not a gym bunny, I am not super fit, I am not a "runner" I do however have 3 months, a fabulous best mate who is also my designated personal trainer to kick my arse into getting down the gym and a need to do something positive. So cancer - watch out I'm joining all those other amazing women and we are coming to get you!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can sponsor me here http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/louloudorset</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And of course I will be blogging about my getting into running journey regularly!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Do you run? Have you done a Race for Life? Any tips?</div>

But "thankfully" it's still cold, wet and raining so it still feels like January here by the seaside!!<br />
<br />
In an attempt to pretend that Spring might be on its way I've switched up my Filofax to be the Finsbury in blue as it feels fresh and summery (unlike me sat here in a thick jumper and cosy slipper boots!)<br />
<br />
I've also switched up my diary inserts to be the week on one page with notes again. I use this format in my "on the go" pocket sized Imperial Purple Finchley and in my work A5 Osterley and I used to used to use it in my Personal sized binders but I'd gotten used to the Cotton Cream week on two pages and was quite happy with them until recently....<br />
<br />
However this year I'm finding with the wedding looming (7 months and counting eek) and lots of change going on at home I'm struggling to keep on top of my to do's for the week as they are slotted in all over the place - hence switching back. This way I have room on the left hand page for any appointments (hardly any!!) and loads and loads of room (i.e. a whole page) for my lists/to do's/ notes/ reminders etc meaning I feel much happier and in control!<br />
<br />
I still have my month to view inserts in there so I can see exactly what is coming up but just a bit more room to write too!<br />
<br />
So there it is no purple or pink for a change it is all about the blues....but not sad ones more tropical sea and skies to cheer up the continuous grey monotony!<br />
<br />
How do you cheer yourself up in this miserable weather? Any tips or tricks?<br />

And I am super excited for the Christmas season this year as it is my last "single" Christmas. This time next year I will be a married lady (hopefully, assuming Mr P doesn't change his mind at the last minute and decide to run off and join a circus!)<br />
<br />
And with the Christmas season comes the dreaded gift choosing - well I say dreaded, I love shopping and any excuse to shop for lots of lovely things even when they're not for me is time well spent I say. Plus I adore all the wrapping of the gifts, placing them under the Christmas tree and writing tags/cards while watching a cheesy Christmas movie and drinking a glass of wine. Bliss!!!<br />
<br />
But this year with the aforementioned wedding to save for Mr P and I have set a nominal budget, to ensure we don't spend silly and save instead for the day where we take 100 of our closest friends and family out for lunch and dinner!! While I can think of a million things I could buy Mr P he is fretting over the "little bits" as he calls it. And no reassurances from me that a coloured pen and a bottle of nail polish are super gifts works (I mean seriously he should read my blog to see how excited a notebook and Pilot Frixxion pen in a new colour makes me!!)....so it got me thinking there must be hundreds of men out there that fret over what to buy their girlfriend/wife so I thought I'd put together a little suggestion box to see if I can help (and yes I admit it these are things I would adore to wake up to from Father Christmas this year too)<br />
<br />
<b><i>If in doubt go for the packaging...</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
When it comes to good girl gifts I don't think you can go wrong with a good lippie - buying a "posh" lipstick doesn't have to be overly expensive but the thought factor of your man going to a beauty counter and choosing a lipstick or even a nail polish from Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent will quadruple the cost of the gift in her eyes.<br />
<br />
Classics to look out for are:<br />
<br />
The Yves Saint Laurent Candy Volupte lipsticks - these are moisturising and the colour is quite sheer so even if your lady is not a huge lippie wearer she should like the lip balm with a spot of colour effect these give (hint I have the Luscious Cherry one and it not only looks amazing (packaging) but smells lush and feels wonderful to apply I highly recommend!!)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
If lips aren't your thing then a super swanky bottle of mail polish is another winner! Anything by Chanel or Dior here for amazing packaging - rule of thumb choose a dark plum colour, a pale pink/nude colour or a fire engine red. Unless you know for sure your lady likes a neon or blue finger tip stick to a classic shade from one of those categories you won't go far wrong! If you are in Boots then check out the Essie range of polishes, a cult beauty favourite and amazing range of colours. OPI is another favourite brand of mine, the new Skyfall collection (yes boys inspired by the James Bond film) all look gorgeous!<br />
<br />
And finally if these aren't your style then do check out Benefit (http://www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk/) for quirky packaging and excellent products. Blushers are really good from there in cute little box packages and they do lots of different gift sets containing miniatures of cult products where you really can't go wrong!<br />
<br />
<b><i>It's the little things that count</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
Nic knacks may seem annoying to boys (well at least Mr P) but small "mundane" objects that you use everyday like umbrellas, travel card holders, change purses, key rings, Kindle sleeves and mobile phone cases all come now in a massive variety of designs and prints. A gift like this means your recipient will use her present everyday and will think of you every time she does! And don't think just because she has a key ring/umbrella etc already she won't appreciate a cute new one!! Great sites to check out for small but gorgeous items like this are:<br />
<br />
Red Direct http://www.reddirect.co.uk/ACCESSORIES<br />
Not on the High Street http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/women/womens-accessories/handbag-essentials<br />
John Lewis http://www.johnlewis.com/Search/Search.aspx?SearchTerm=Gift+Ideas+For+Her+Under+20<br />
<br />
Or on the high street Primark is great as are Boots, House of Fraser and Debenhams. Seriously who doesn't love a quirky umbrella or a new key chain?<br />
<br />
<b><i>Snuggle me warm and cosy</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
Of course other classic and inexpensive gifts include:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>scarves - you can NEVER have too many scarves </li>
<li>costume jewellery - sparkly items or classic silver studs are always welcome</li>
<li>slippers - warm tootsies are the way to a girls heart (and in my house come in handy as an anti kitten foot chomping device too!)</li>
<li>gloves - at this time of year a soft pair of cute gloves are really handy (no pun intended honest!) as I'm always loosing one of my gloves and I can'y be the only one (can I?)</li>
</ul>
<div>
For all these items check out Primark, Monsoon/Accessorise and Oasis. All have excellent ranges this year and prices from £2 upwards so super affordable too!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If in doubt just hit up Boots for pampering products to warm her cockles...look out for ranges from Champneys and Soap & Glory you really can't go wrong!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><i>And then there's always the stationery....</i></b></div>
<div>

Of course a post from me wouldn't be complete without a Filofax recommendation and some post its and pens!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am currently lusting after this Parker Sonnet ball pen which I think is just stunning:</div>

<br />
Or there's the whole of Paperchase from pens, to stationery and stickers is amazing!! And frankly just get me some Hootsuite sticky notes and I'd be a very happy girl:<br />

<br />
Then from Filofax (and if you order anything make sure you order via <a href="http://www.cityorganiser.co.uk/" target="_blank">City Organiser</a> as their website is just the best!) I am in love with the new style Flex notebooks especially the Blackcurrant Lizard Print cover (would go so well with the Parker Sonnet don't you think?)<br />

<br />
And also the Temperley for Filofax Violet in Pocket Size (yes I'm thinking again about downsizing, no I don't <i>need</i> the binder, yes I think it's lovely and want want want.....)<br />
<br />
This is super cute and with the bespoke inserts adorable in my opinion....<br />

<br />
So there you go, what do you think about my gift list? I am having to try very hard not to splurge and buy all the items now for myself (perhaps I could wrap for under the tree from Boots the kitten??)<br />
<br />
Just so you know, all the links I've added are purely to show you where you can get the items it's not for kickbacks and none are sponsored :)<br />
<br />
Let me know what you think of my list in the comments, what are you hoping for this Christmas and what items are you purchasing for people in your life?<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiaB8wpBR1aB1KCQtRSTVKC4RKgVhtdBfepczZ29nGMoBo2V-uT4j37dF9eoCQXtU6YmkxCBKhHSoMUOe140UqJzkjc1IkNy45-3J-LSTdoc5qajnC28siPF1BMdqGkcP6jBi88RsK_N6/s1600/2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiaB8wpBR1aB1KCQtRSTVKC4RKgVhtdBfepczZ29nGMoBo2V-uT4j37dF9eoCQXtU6YmkxCBKhHSoMUOe140UqJzkjc1IkNy45-3J-LSTdoc5qajnC28siPF1BMdqGkcP6jBi88RsK_N6/s320/2013.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
<br />
Well not exactly all change I mean I'm still using a Filofax, still using a Filofax insert but I am planning on trying out a new diary format in 2013! I used to adore the week on one page with notes but then had a planner crisis and then when I was lucky enough to receive my Amethyst Deco I moved to Cotton Cream week on two pages inserts as they were so much nicer for the gorgeous binder (<a href="http://louloudorsetsmusings.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/planner-faila-filofax-update.html" target="_blank">see here</a>) And this has worked really well for me for quite a while....<br />
<br />
However I'm currently finding that there's just not enough room for me to write everything down that I need to do so I end up with additional note lists hole punched in<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJreffyz8GCxkSdSTYSlaZIk9nBuscWtQfkp3nlDDRGMAv7chAezQbUf-8bKnAt5m-xqetnq-T5MVPdeY-XSS-Arj45XvZhlVXIBW_q6Ri2irXGiZbtdCe-e-dt3LKzcQMMTBj_f28y1Av/s1600/IMG_3014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJreffyz8GCxkSdSTYSlaZIk9nBuscWtQfkp3nlDDRGMAv7chAezQbUf-8bKnAt5m-xqetnq-T5MVPdeY-XSS-Arj45XvZhlVXIBW_q6Ri2irXGiZbtdCe-e-dt3LKzcQMMTBj_f28y1Av/s320/IMG_3014.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wonky photo no 1</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
These Chococat note pages are super cute and I'm sure I'll carry on using them occasionally but they don't half bulk out the binder when you end up with 3 or 4 a week!!<br />
<br />
So I started to consider changing up my format for the new year as with the wedding coming up the number of things to do/remember/check per week gets larger than ever so I figured a bit more space on the daily planner would be a huge help!<br />
<br />
Cue the 2 days per day inserts!<br />
<br />
I picked these up months ago from Selfridges stationary hall - if you ever visit London you have to go check out Selfridges and their stationery department I just adore it and it's right next to the magazine section so you can browse all the magazines from overseas as well as our UK versions - I nearly always end up purchasing a couple of American editions of either In Style, Marie Claire or Glamour plus any Martha Stewart magazines I can spy. Yes I download these occasionally via Zinio on my iPad but I'm a sucker for a printed magazine!!!<br />
<br />
Anyway.....I saw this 2013 insert and wondered if the additional room could be worth a try and picked it up. Fast forward several months and I can actually add it into my Filofax and start seeing if/how it works for me!<br />
<br />
It makes my Aston pretty chunky alongside all the other notes and bits I keep in there:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9gAfm8_5JYD5MpP2HnaX982rJgkKUyb9P_-p8mNf-HvvAYgfRpGUxOXX1K6i_bxQXGH3fFXfQkHWH_wocps1HFAouzjV2sPL4FmSJCNRUI_ygowv1chcY23hllp57FGkNDR4W-A6lKQPJ/s1600/IMG_3015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9gAfm8_5JYD5MpP2HnaX982rJgkKUyb9P_-p8mNf-HvvAYgfRpGUxOXX1K6i_bxQXGH3fFXfQkHWH_wocps1HFAouzjV2sPL4FmSJCNRUI_ygowv1chcY23hllp57FGkNDR4W-A6lKQPJ/s320/IMG_3015.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But certainly when I have it open allows for a much bigger area for writing, making lists and doodling!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShwoR3FcPh1s2d3a1A8r6vPZQh32WUB7TgDJiiNtri3OD62DXvScj-k6c_PxI30yXOnOt0_3Jz_GqdE1EdMoZKH7RCsoIko617oDFq9Wy_S8oAz-EdnafR7bT3_rUp9iyaRaRPjdFR7df/s1600/IMG_3017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShwoR3FcPh1s2d3a1A8r6vPZQh32WUB7TgDJiiNtri3OD62DXvScj-k6c_PxI30yXOnOt0_3Jz_GqdE1EdMoZKH7RCsoIko617oDFq9Wy_S8oAz-EdnafR7bT3_rUp9iyaRaRPjdFR7df/s320/IMG_3017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now one of things that worried me first off before I set this insert up was not seeing my whole week at a glance but because I use the month on two pages inserts in my binder as well I always have the brief overview to hand..<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLDlaxRnmsg-neg6_OplVO7z3DDqseQv7URtU2qNwthyphenhyphenZ_9H33jgCeBVNcdfotgSIxRegiCNdhQQzy8v4R1rBf8ugjIW5i5TFw85W_Ad-9kjCc5Jwja5lEKY92foM9wGYDbUkIFEFqWXaA/s1600/IMG_3016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLDlaxRnmsg-neg6_OplVO7z3DDqseQv7URtU2qNwthyphenhyphenZ_9H33jgCeBVNcdfotgSIxRegiCNdhQQzy8v4R1rBf8ugjIW5i5TFw85W_Ad-9kjCc5Jwja5lEKY92foM9wGYDbUkIFEFqWXaA/s320/IMG_3016.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wonky photo no 2 - so sorry for the wonky photos but Blogger keeps turning them round...grrr</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
But now that I'm starting to fill in the half a page per day I'm really starting to like the additional space and I can see the whole week easily enough by flipping the pages over - plus they also have a snazzy notes box right next to the weekend pages cool eh!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw2E1oRbVR3Yk0YHR8ZxTzxySMMz3v3_ust4-v63P2gNTyEx2UIW93fARqR-ZBAIK12y5dkd31PJmxA0ramDbZOkOIfLK0ORvV2Dy5X82lltrlQg77Xj-HzD3bzrLd_oQ1tm9WrZLoMO0F/s1600/IMG_3018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw2E1oRbVR3Yk0YHR8ZxTzxySMMz3v3_ust4-v63P2gNTyEx2UIW93fARqR-ZBAIK12y5dkd31PJmxA0ramDbZOkOIfLK0ORvV2Dy5X82lltrlQg77Xj-HzD3bzrLd_oQ1tm9WrZLoMO0F/s320/IMG_3018.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have to say though reading up on everyone else's planner formats for 2013 I'm a little jealous of the daytimer inserts, the print your own (some of <a href="http://mylifeallinoneplace.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Ray</a> and <a href="http://www.philofaxy.com/" target="_blank">Steve's</a> inserts for next year look really great) and of course <a href="http://www.limetreefruits.com/" target="_blank">LimeTreeFruits's</a> designs are so so pretty....but I'm going to see how I get on with these first....<br />
<br />
Is anyone else making a change next year? Any recommendations on ways to utilise these inserts to their best ?<br />

Their fantastic range of products, their emphasis on Plan A for sustainability and let's not forget their food halls YUM! Just to highlight how much I love their products today I am rocking a pair of their ankle boots, a handbag from their Limited Collection range, socks and undies obviously come from there (whose don't!) and a scarf....I feel I should be a typical target customer for Marks and Spencer - young (ahem go with it), disposable income, likes to purchase classic clothing with a nod to the trends (sometimes, usually just a classic frankly I'm a bit risk adverse in the clothing department) surely I should be in their cross hairs this Christmas?<br />
<br />
But frankly I feel a bit let down by their Christmas advertising campaign this year! Their advert is the same style of advert we've seen from them for years. There's no Christmas feeling, no real sense of anticipation or excitement. Where's the magic Marks and Spencer?<br />
<br />
We are in the midst of a massive recession, things are frankly a bit grim so I think Christmas is about finding that sparkle to maybe spend a day enjoying being with family and remembering all the fun we had as kids to pass on to our kids, if you have any, me I'll be trying to instill Christmas cheer in Boots the kitten's first Christmas!<br />
<br />
I'm not talking about spending a ton of money none of us have either, but focusing on the essence of the season - goodwill to all men, love, family, thankfulness.....<br />
<br />
Now I know this is difficult to convey in a 30 second commercial but come on this is the biggest and most important sales period for retailers of the whole year. If you can't make money at Christmas you really are in trouble and as we can see in the UK we are loosing retailers left right and centre off of our high streets. Therefore this Christmas, competing for the limited budgets available needs a new strategy not a rehash of the same old campaign rocked out for the past few years.<br />
<br />
Cue the the John Lewis Snowman advert. This is an exceptionally well timed advert in my opinion - it pulls on all the heartstrings, it establishes John Lewis (again) as the destination for Christmas and makes me want to shop there. Cleverly though it doesn't actually show any products. No chance for me to dismiss their product range (sorry Marks and Spencers but that's exactly what I did with the products you featured) it just evokes the essence of Christmas and darn it I want to go and shop there purely because of that!<br />
<br />
So Marks and Spencer you can take your tired, cliched jumping lingerie dressed models I'm off to John Lewis to feel the Christmas Spirit and no doubt spend far more than I meant to but at least I'll feel good for it!<br />
<br />
How are you all facing the Christmas shopping this year? Am I alone in wanting it to be a nicer expeience than just a standard days shopping?<br />

So checking my Filofax it appears that we are in November (the 3rd as I write this actually!) and all I can say is HOW????<br />
<br />
This year truly has flown by at such a rate of knots it's been hard at points to keep track - I mean so far I've:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ol>
<li>Started planning my wedding to the lovely Mr P (which is now only 308 days away eek) and ordered my wedding dress (omg that's a big decision - will Mr P like, does it suit me, will I look like a giant meringue, am I too old for a traditional dress.........) I went with gut feel in the end and I love it fingers crossed Mr P will too!</li>
<li>Learnt to ski on holiday in Canada (badly but such fun who knew seeing as I thought I'd hate it)</li>
<li>Went to V Festival and saw the amazing Killers live again, and managed to secure tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2013 yay!</li>
<li>Visited Barcelona and celebrated my birthday watching a Spanish covers band while drinking goldfish bowls of vodka</li>
<li>Took Mr P to Minatur Wunderland in Hamburg (and actually enjoyed it there, the level of craftsmanship and detail is incredible. And as for the teeny tiny replica Christmas Coca Cola lorry - too adorable!)</li>
<li>Became a grown up and started having my hair coloured at a salon as opposed to dying the bathroom random shades of brown while attempting it myself</li>
<li>Started (and failed) at a shopping ban (trying again!)</li>
<li>Started weight watchers and have lost over a stone and bit (or thereabouts...) so far</li>
<li>Found myself using my Kindle far more than I ever thought I would (particularly handy for reading 50 Shades without anyone knowing hehe)</li>
<li>I finally tried the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks and became OBSESSED with it..but it's now gone replaced by the Christmas flavours so instead I'm hunting down any Pumpkin spice syrup/flavouring that I can use at home in coffee instead (any recommendations???)</li>
</ol>
<div>
And the biggest thing was of course becoming a kitty parent to the most adorable kitten in the universe called Boots (cue gratuitous photo opportunity....)</div>

Phew and that's just the top 11 things list....I am so lucky to have all this in my life. Especially considering everything on the news at the moment.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As to how I'm keeping on top of things (cue excessive Filofax content and images, look away here non Filofax fans) I'm using my Personal sized Orchid Aston (sighs while gazing at her) as I always say for ages I was using my Personal Deco in Amethyst which still is (and always will be my favourite ever Filofax) but as I take my Filofax everywhere with me, chucking it in handbags, using frequently, open on desks, removing it from Boots playing with it /sleeping on it /trying to chew it etc etc I don't want to damage/scuff/scratch her so she's having a wee holiday tucked safely away. This of course means one of my other binders can come out of retirement....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And for Autumn/Winter this year I'm using the Aston, she's such a lovely shade of plum/pink/purple very autumnal feeling. And here are some shots of my current set up (frankly no real change from earlier in the year as the system works for me but I love the pictures!!)</div>

In the back of that first clear pocket is an ancient pic from a magazine I tore out (I do that a lot pictures and quotes that inspire me, things I want to read or purchase, potential gift ideas etc etc) Also in there is a "From Dorset With Love" business card - yummy treats I purchased at a food fair :)<br />
<br />
In the next clear pocket on the right hand side are mementos - my Eiffel Tower ticket from when I went to Paris last year with Mr P, a Ski Pass ticket from Whistler earlier this year, more favourite quotes and pics...<br />

Onto something a bit more interesting...the diary! I'm currently using (and have been all year I think) the Cotton Cream WO2P which has a notes box at the top of the left hand page. I'd never really gotten on with it before but it seems to be working OK for me this year as I've had more to do's/better system for writing them down than before maybe in this format?....I've already got a 2013 refill the same but I also have a half a day to a page insert to try out next year as well which I'm quite excited about!<br />
<br />
As you can see from the pic I use colour a lot (no real system I keep trying but then I either forget or I need to write something down immediately (the curse of having a memory like a goldfish) so I grab the nearest pen!<br />
<br />
It was a busy week this week (aren't they all at the moment?) as we had two wedding related things - visiting the registrar on Saturday and Sunday off for lunch at our wedding venue for a meet the parents lunch too (as in our parents meeting each other for the first time obviously we have both met each other's parents!)<br />
<br />
I am in love with the ChocoKitty little tabs (top of right hand page as they remind me of Boots!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvO2Cj5Mb8zuVLFaWPLTgVGSk1lrm0rMRJ_FnjVxE8YbYJAFGRage2ZTO6tIK5JlnUbRw4RnAo5JrPBI5q0wmsNdsLS7sK-CAyluYxTPM1Gz20KkfwLBNNuZFY8290ffJbsakLooiYvQh/s1600/Photo+04-11-2012+08+44+07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvO2Cj5Mb8zuVLFaWPLTgVGSk1lrm0rMRJ_FnjVxE8YbYJAFGRage2ZTO6tIK5JlnUbRw4RnAo5JrPBI5q0wmsNdsLS7sK-CAyluYxTPM1Gz20KkfwLBNNuZFY8290ffJbsakLooiYvQh/s320/Photo+04-11-2012+08+44+07.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
As well as my WO2P I <b><u>HAVE</u> </b>to have a monthly diary in there (and I have Nov/Dec this year and the whole of 2013 in there at the moment) as I need to be able to plan quite far ahead for holidays/work/wedding stuff etc etc and I like being able to see the whole month at a glance. It also means I can schedule in things like when Mr P has gigs or birthdays etc. As you will see this month there was a Christmas Event at Boots that was so important I stuck in the reminder....!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ZZFsivOor33bd1W2kgN2Xp4vvKO6zZ2lW_avm7_1POAiB2EudFHaZ-R68OygMA5m2mwAQBBFtpf2hrB9d-AYKeXlvlnjIO8BCjQAa4DxVO7x-td9hFL-FIc15J8-sa-bjfgVpLIIDzV1/s1600/Photo+04-11-2012+08+43+35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ZZFsivOor33bd1W2kgN2Xp4vvKO6zZ2lW_avm7_1POAiB2EudFHaZ-R68OygMA5m2mwAQBBFtpf2hrB9d-AYKeXlvlnjIO8BCjQAa4DxVO7x-td9hFL-FIc15J8-sa-bjfgVpLIIDzV1/s320/Photo+04-11-2012+08+43+35.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally a sneak peak at my Wedding section - as well as top tab section in my Filofax for on the go notes I have this super cute little notebook that I keep in my Filofax for sketching and ideas as my master planner for the Wedding is an A5 Vintage Pink Malden...more on that I'm sure in a later post!<br />
<br />
You can also see my Xmas top tab - currently that just has the Christmas Card list I made last year and a load of cuttings from magazines about potential gifts for people so obviously couldn't show you that!<br />
<br />
Hope you are all well and you enjoyed my rambling about the current set up and what I'm up to! How are you all??<br />

<br />
Chris Moyles's long running radio show (over 8 years) on weekday mornings was often controversial and he was often described as like Marmite - you either love him or hate him. I for one adored the show, the mix of banter between Chris, Comedy Dave, Dom, Aled and new girl Tina always felt like sitting with a group of mates every morning. They discussed the topical, the inane and the downright ridiculous. We got to know about their lives, their friends, their partners, their children...as James Corden so eloquently put it during this penultimate live show it was kind of like being part of a group of friends who have never excluded you from anything, you were always invited, always one of the gang. And the longer you listened the more of a gang member you became as you got the historical references and in-jokes and could laugh along with the team.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately this long running show and the millions of listeners who loyally listened every single day singing along to the cheesy song and playing the Monday Night Pub Quiz did the unthinkable for Radio 1 - we got old.<br />
<br />
I get that the BBC have a charter, they need to reach each section of the population and catering to these strict demographics means Radio 1 needs to meet the needs of the "youth" audience namely the 15-29 age brackets. And despite the continued success of the Chris Moyles Show (7 million listeners on average) the problem lies with the fact that us listeners who started listening when the show began carried on getting older...unfortunate that. So that elusive young audience grew up. And this is where I get angry....Where am I supposed to go now eh BBC?<br />
<br />
As I say, I understand the predicament of the BBC I mean their funding is at risk. But frankly I don't feel old enough for Radio 2. I mean some of the presenters and shows are great but the music, really? It seems when I listed the majority of it just does not appeal to me, I like the chart songs, I like listening and singing along to David Guetta and Coldplay and Rhianna I mean I'm 35 not 65. And as for breakfast shows I just can't face Chris Evans in the morning - I mean I have lots of friends who love him but for me it's just not to my taste.<br />
<br />
I could listen to BBC6 I hear that's good, a great line up of presenters, excellent music selections, but it is digital only, so not an option for my 2 hours of commuting per day in my car....so where are my options? How are you serving my age group that are still young enough to want to listen to music and hear about gigs and new releases, or are you telling me Mr BBC that at my time of life I should be staying at home with the Archers?<br />
<br />
And I don't think I'm alone here - which radio station is it within the BBC that I am supposed to enjoy now if I'm too old for Radio 1? I take it as I'm 35 maybe I should just shuffle off and tune into my local station - which I often do on my drive home but the combination of the annoying adverts and the excessive ABBA/Bonnie Tyler/Banarama songs that prevent this from being a full time option.<br />
<br />
So what have I done? I've moved to Radio 4! Educational, interesting, thought provoking but often depressing - I mean getting into work worrying about the economy and the threat of a potential new world war is draining on a daily basis. I love the business news, the in-depth topical discussions and occasionally thought for the day doesn't make me want to scream but I miss having a giggle in the morning with the team from the Chris Moyles show. I miss the silly links, and the un-PC chat and most of all I miss hearing what my mates (or my imaginary friends that Mr P used to call them when I'd come home talking about what they'd been discussing as though I knew them) were up to. I mean Dom just got chickens!!!<br />
<br />
So BBC where am I to go? How about you start a Radio 1+1 you know a bit like Dave+1 on Sky...where all us 30+ listeners can go and still listen to music and chatter...and not feel like we're being punished for being loyal? And if you could bring Chris and the team, Sarah Cox, Edith Bowman and all the other DJ's that you retired out for being too old that would be great too!<br />

Bliss!<br />
<br />
And this weekend that was particularly handy as I spent part of it embracing the outdoors lifestyle with a visit to <a href="http://www.rivercottage.net/shop/product/river-cottage-autumn-fair/" target="_blank">River Cottage Autumn Fair</a> with one of my besties. This was a day basking in sunshine, sampling all the very best local produce (meat/cheese/wine/cider....) and listening to some talks and enjoying some music. Frankly it was just blissful and I came home laden with Elephant Garlic (HUMONGOUS) some super hot Dorset chillis, lots of preserves and some of the most amazing smoked cheese produced in the village I went to school in as well as Raspberry wine from Somerset...I mean I could say that I was researching flavours for our wedding next September but that would be a blatant lie I just enjoyed eating and drinking my way round the show!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
After our countryside jaunt we stopped off on the way home at West Bay for a sunshine drenched fish and chip supper on the beach. If you've never been you must add it to your places to visit list as it really is just gorgeous!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9FoKx1jXezz7KJaP8lUXYKtYEApn6BN6xyw_5hYtBkTlUEfbGyw9yJDCeAREUwoOiTJK0oUhw92NOGWipq0SktEg-8410aQP-IqDKTFFjyec9EtG-Y3rYfM-C_OFqrbgjKlITtaB7oNBJ/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9FoKx1jXezz7KJaP8lUXYKtYEApn6BN6xyw_5hYtBkTlUEfbGyw9yJDCeAREUwoOiTJK0oUhw92NOGWipq0SktEg-8410aQP-IqDKTFFjyec9EtG-Y3rYfM-C_OFqrbgjKlITtaB7oNBJ/s320/photo+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Also this weekend I was reading the Boots magazine and I was so excited by this interview with the founder of Essie nail polishes that I Instagram'ed the article - the Filofax mentioned in point 3 must be amazing. I imagine it crammed with gorgeous pictures and fabrics bulging at the seams....much like I hope mine will be as I get more into planning the wedding!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL-zEIhjrEoHuSuLf6UQmItv8wQ8jhX52gMRG4KcC3Vr6U3PR7H2rgkAtMj2rpE7KZa0q7cPo-OmzdpqLDXLADHW05QdyTuV-5Ck3hG9HjrWYT_NlaG0hZL_9UembEIK7rZeVPnnXPGicD/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL-zEIhjrEoHuSuLf6UQmItv8wQ8jhX52gMRG4KcC3Vr6U3PR7H2rgkAtMj2rpE7KZa0q7cPo-OmzdpqLDXLADHW05QdyTuV-5Ck3hG9HjrWYT_NlaG0hZL_9UembEIK7rZeVPnnXPGicD/s320/photo+3.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And then there was a magic surprise when I returned home to my boy....an early birthday present!!! As you will know from my previous post we are off to Barcelona for a long weekend soon and while we are there I will be celebrating my birthday so Mr P decided as he won't be able to necessarily pack and transport the gift I could have it early and OH MY GOSH the boy done good!<br />
<br />
I am one of those people with kinky hair - you know the type that curls under on one side and curls out on the other. The type of hair that with the merest hint of moisture in the air goes frizzy and unruly so the invention of hair straighteners have improved my life no end. But while I know the magical properties of GHD's from my hairdresser smoothing my tresses with them I have never got round to committing the spend on a pair opting to purchase cheap ones that then expire after 6 months use or so. A false economy I know but it always seemed far too much of an indulgence to purchase a pair.....<br />
<br />
But no more as the fabulous Mr P has only gone and bought me a pair - I hope because he knows me so well and not because my hair is an embarrassment to him hehe ;0)<br />
<br />
So these are the beauties, they have pink sparkly ceramic plates and come in the most gorgeous travel bag with a heat mat as well...stunning aren't they? I really am a truly lucky gal! They are the special edition version that includes a donation to Breast Cancer care which means not only are they super pretty they also contribute to a fantastic cause who could ask for more!<br />

<br />
Other things I have been doing this weekend is watching lots of Paralympics coverage - I loved the Olympics and I'm loving the Paralympics equally if not more. The phrase Superhumans that C4 have used could not have been more apt as watching our athletes compete has just been so inspirational! Roll on tonight's closing ceremony for a party to celebrate all the fantastic achievements.<br />
<br />
Even Boots has been getting some shut eye so she can stay up and watch the ceremony!!<br />

So next week Mr P and I are jetting off to Barcelona for a long weekend and I CAN'T WAIT! Not only will it mean (hopefully) some sunshine, (copious amounts of) sangria and (lots of) tapas but that doesn't even start to cover the amazing architecture and culture...sighs and looks wistfully out of the window!<br />
<br />
Now we are flying with EasyJet (groan) which means cabin only luggage, no allocated seating so a bun fight to be able to sit with Mr P and then wrestle to fit my carry on luggage in the overhead racks plus extortionate prices for food and drink should I forget to stock up on water before hand! Of course this is all conjecture as I've never flown with EasyJet before...other budget airlines but not the orange one! But having read numerous articles/blogs/seen Watchdog I have a good idea what to expect!<br />
<br />
Anyhoo as this means only one piece of luggage (as in one suitcase to be carried on board - no handbag as that counts as two items and therefore is chargeable I kid you not!) being me I've been making lots of holiday packing lists in my trusty Filofax. This week I'm using the Raspberry Chameleon in personal size which I'm loving and while my diary pages are all working the notes area is a MESS so that's my next task for today - sort out my sections (blog post on that I'm sure!!)<br />
<br />
Currently the weather now in Barcelona is 27-29 degrees centigrade (bliss) however the long range (ish) forecast is showing RAIN for next week aaaah. So what to pack?? Originally I was all about the sun dresses and maxi dresses with flip flops - now I'm thinking I need a waterproof/poncho (thank you festival packing) and probably jeans and trainers....<br />
<br />
So having Googled what to pack for a weekend in Barcelona I found several useful blog posts including this one by <a href="http://www.libertylondongirl.com/2011/07/11/llg-video-what-to-pack-in-a-carry-on-for-a-three-day-city-break/" target="_blank">Liberty London Girl </a> which a) showed me how much I could cram in the case and b) gave some good tips! (Also I'd love her wardrobe the shoes are gorgeous!)<br />
<br />
But as ever I needed a list to start from so here is my top 5 so far must remember to pack essentials:<br />
<br />
1. A cross body handbag for during the day.<br />
<div>
Barcelona is apparently notorious for pick pockets so a small cross body handbag to keep my valuables (camera/dosh) in is essential. Handily I love these type of bags anyway and this is my current fave that I was rocking during our weekend in Cardiff. Cute isn't she and just big enough to fit camera/phone/purse/lip balm & suncream...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUYriDyUiPC-4aY11F71igRhclEkr75a5kpVn0gh5zWKXT_nc_cr9ce3jBqAelYHbF1DsCX2NIEVMORMjW4Qbwm79I5NQQY1fhcolcwSNRIPon_CBckJ5A9y9FSe6JguPCA9TGq2XftgXA/s1600/skyline.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUYriDyUiPC-4aY11F71igRhclEkr75a5kpVn0gh5zWKXT_nc_cr9ce3jBqAelYHbF1DsCX2NIEVMORMjW4Qbwm79I5NQQY1fhcolcwSNRIPon_CBckJ5A9y9FSe6JguPCA9TGq2XftgXA/s320/skyline.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
2. Technology - of course I am going to have to take my camera (just a little Nikon compact) my Kindle for some plane reading and my iPhone for more picture taking this is just a given, nerdy photo taker that I am...and all the associated chargers...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. iPanema flip flops - I am obsessed with flip flops just ask Mr P as apparently I have a few too many pairs. Until recently the obsession revolved around Havianas but the same bestie that introduced me to those introduced me to iPanemas - still rubber flip flops but they are just so so so comfy. I even ordered Mr P a pair to prove to him how good they are! I am particularly loving these that I have been wearing to death all summer (Mr P's are without flower though unfortunately...)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimrm37pjI04lnYrUVzDImdRL7OxQHFI6SF6eqBzTmvfJJm-o5R_mo2g9vYmM5_FfiS9nXJjmhhGhBGiy54LQGYYF7bDgJ90fnA0vlycIWDn8xluMXCLx9CIKD2k4grkp7SwXNBE69mXehu/s1600/ipanema-flip-flop-sandal-flower-black.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimrm37pjI04lnYrUVzDImdRL7OxQHFI6SF6eqBzTmvfJJm-o5R_mo2g9vYmM5_FfiS9nXJjmhhGhBGiy54LQGYYF7bDgJ90fnA0vlycIWDn8xluMXCLx9CIKD2k4grkp7SwXNBE69mXehu/s320/ipanema-flip-flop-sandal-flower-black.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
4. Dresses - having lost over 18lbs since the start of the summer (I use that phrase loosely in the UK of course) I feel so much more confident that I don't mind/enjoy wearing dresses now whereas before I felt far too self conscious to entertain dressing up in a frock too often. My plan (weather depending) is to take a selection of summer dresses to wear in Barcelona with my flip flops during the day and a pair of wedges at night just so I don't feel quite so midget like...a denim jacket cover up and a couple of cardigans should see me right in case of shoulder chills of an evening too! Plus dresses take up far less room than other bulkier items like jeans etc<br />
<br />
5. Minimal toiletries - I'm going to try super hard to only take the bare minimum of the toiletries I need/use main things being suncream, moisturiser and a few make up items. I plan to hit a pharmacy while we are there to get some cheap shampoo if the hotel doesn't provide it just to try and save on weight/room....unless of course I can sneak some items into Mr P's luggage.....<br />
<br />
So anyone been to Barcelona? Any recommendations on what to see/visit/take with me?<br />
